Cameron Highlands, Pahang - Travel Guide

Where Is It

Cameron Highlands is a laidback hill resort in the state of Pahang. It is however, accessible only via Tapah or Simpang Pulai in Perak if you're coming from the North or South. Its temperature varies during the day and night, depending on the weather. On the average, the temperature is between 16 degrees Celcius and 24 degrees Celcius on a hot, sunny day. That said, on one of my visits, the temperature dropped to 12 degrees Celcius. That was rare though.

Peak period is usually during school mid-term and year-end breaks (March, June, September and December) as well as public holidays. It is advisable to avoid Cameron Highlands during those times as the road in Cameron Highlands is narrow and traffic jam can stretch for miles.

How To Get There

There are two ways to get to Cameron Highlands, by car or bus. Cameron Highlands does not have an airport or train station.

By Car: The best way to get to Cameron Highlands is by car. It is about 210km from Kuala Lumpur City Center and takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes depending on the presence or absence of heavy vehicles in front.

Although there are two routes to Cameron Highlands, via Simpang Pulai or Tapah, it is advisable to take the Simpang Pulai route for those who are driving up the hill for the first time. The road is less windy and a lot wider than the route from Tapah.

By Bus: There are buses to Cameron Highlands from Penang, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
